Small-angle Anisotropies in the Cmbr from Active Sources

چکیده

We consider the effects of photon diffusion on the small-angle microwave background anisotropies due to active source models. We find that fluctuations created just before the time of last scattering allow anisotropy to be created on scales much smaller than allowed by standard Silk damping. Using simple models for string and texture structure functions as examples, we illustrate differences in the angular power spectrum of the intrinsic and Doppler components of the anisotropy on scales of order a few arcminutes. In particular, we find that the Doppler peak heights are modified by 10-50% and small-angle fall-off is power law rather than exponential.

Active - Sterile neutrino oscillations and BBN + CMBR constraints

We show how active-sterile neutrino oscillations in the early Universe can play an interesting role in explaining the current observations of CMBR anisotropies and light element abundances. We describe different possible phenomenological scenarios in the interpretation of present data and how active-sterile neutrino oscillations can provide a viable theoretical framework.

Small-scale CMB polarization anisotropies due to tangled primordial magnetic fields

Tangled, primordial cosmic magnetic fields create small rotational velocity perturbations on the last scattering surface (LSS) of the cosmic microwave background radiation (CMBR). Such perturbations can contribute significantly to the CMBR temperature and polarization anisotropies at large l > 1000 or so, like the excess power detected by the CBI experiment. The magnetic contribution can be dis...

Analytical modeling of large-angle CMBR anisotropies from textures.

We propose an analytic method for predicting the large angle CMBR temperature fluctuations induced by model textures. The model makes use of only a small number of phenomenological parameters which ought to be measured from simple simulations. We derive semi-analytically the C l-spectrum for 2 ≤ l ≤ 30 together with its associated non-Gaussian cosmic variance error bars. A slightly tilted spect...

General Relativistic Contribution to Polarization of the Cosmic Microwave Background Anisotropy

We solve the wave equation for the electromagnetic field tensors associated with the CMBR photons in a universe with scalar metric perturbations. We show that the coupling of the electromagnetic fields with the curvature associated with the scalar perturbations gives rise to an optical rotation of the microwave background photons. The magnitude of the gravitationally generated V-Stokes paramete...

Advanced Topics in Cosmology: a Pedagogical Introduction

These lecture notes provide a concise, rapid and pedagogical introduction to several advanced topics in contemporary cosmology. The discussion of thermal history of the universe, linear perturbation theory, theory of CMBR temperature anisotropies and the inflationary generation of perturbation are presented in a manner accessible to someone who has done a first course in cosmology. The discussi...
